WBC super featherweight champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto, who is trained by Bobby Quirarte of the CREA Gym in Tijuana, MX, has gone on the record that he would like to face Edwin Valero (26-0, 26KO) if the Venezuelan were to beat Antonio DeMarco (23-1-1, 17KO) this Saturday night in Monterrey, MX.
Fernando Beltran, head of Zanfer Promotions and in charge of Soto’s career, stated that the bout can be made for later this year as long as Valero retains his title.
“If Valero win, then it is a given that we would look for that fight for Soto. He has mentioned plenty of times that he would like to face the Venezuelan and all Valero has to do is defend his title. Against DeMarco there is no possibility since they are great friends,” Beltran stated earlier this week in Mexico City.
Beltran also mentioned that Soto might defend his super featherweight title one more time to then establish himself as a 135 pounder.
“Soto will defend his crown one more time in the upcoming months and maybe by mid or late 2010 he can fight for a lightweight title,” Beltran added. “We are going to wait but we are sure that Soto will have a full schedule this year.”
