Mariana “Barbie” Juarez of Tijuana, MX, by way of Mexico City, successfully defended her interim WBC flyweight title for the 4th time last night in Rosarito, MX, over late sub Abigail Billar of Panama in the main event of a fight card presented by Box Latino.
Both fighters began with a high energy rate while the defending champion Juarez (24-5-3, 11KO) got the better of the exchanges.
By the third round, Juarez was well in control of the bout, landing hard combinations with both fists while Billar (3-4-2, 1KO) had little success. In the fourth, Juarez turned up the heat as she landed hard lefts followed with even harder uppercuts which put Billar in a bad place.
Billar had her best round in the seventh as she was able to land a series of hard punches to the face of the “Barbie” but the local favorite responded in kind with straight lefts.
Both women exchanged heavy leather in the last three rounds with Billar looking worse for wear by the end in which she clinched the champion to stay afloat.
At the end of the ten rounds, Juarez was awarded the unanimous decision with scores of 100-90 twice and 99-96.
Also on the fight card, the younger brother of former champions Erik and Diego Morales, super flyweight Ivan “Terriblito” Morales (4-0, 3KO) was taken the distance for the first time by Juan Manuel Armendariz (0-2), both of Tijuana, in a four round bout.
In other results, middleweight Antonio Arras (21-7, 15KO) of Chihuahua sent into retirement Rito Ruvalcaba (33-10, 29KO) of Tijuana via fourth round KO while Guillergo Garcia (5-1, 1KO) bettered Francisco Espinoza (3-1, 1KO), both of Tijuana, with a unanimous decision in a middleweight four round bout.
Tijuana bantamweight Luis Gomez (1-1, 1KO) knocked out Carlos Espinoza (1-1, 1KO), also of Tijuana, in the first round and lightweight Mario Padilla (5-3, 1KO) of Tijuana was awarded a four round unanimous decision over Ensenada’s Ignacio Mandragon (0-5).

Former welterweight Antonio Margarito’s brother in law, Hanzel Martinez (6-0, 5KO) stayed undefeated when he knocked out Rene Trujillo (4-11-2, 1KO) in flyweight contest as part of the undercard of Ricardo “Pelon” Dominguez’s (31-5-2, 19KO) domination of Leonardo Resendiz (22-23, 14KO) in the third round by KO on Top Rank Live on the Fox Sports channel.
